Lady Marshals open Hoopfest with win over Massac County

DRAFFENVILLE – Hoopfest 2016 kicked off Thursday at 4:00 with the Marshall County girls taking on Massac County. The Lady Marshals held the Lady Patriots scoreless for the entire 16 minutes of the first half on their way to a 44-13 win.

Tera Colson put the Lady Marshals on the board to start the game followed by 3-pointers from Lexee Miller and Miyah Davis. They led 12-0 at the end of the first quarter and 20-0 at halftime with second quarter scoring coming from Lorin Powell with four and Hannah Langhi and Miyah Davis with a basket a piece.

Paige Henson opened the second half with a basket for a 22-0 lead before Massac County finally found the net on a three by Emilee Truitt. The Lady Patriots would score  10 of their 13 total points in the third quarter between Truitt and Taylor Stoner, trailing 31-10 going into the fourth quarter.

Davis hit her second of three 3-pointers in the game to start the fourth quarter following that up with another basket to put the Lady Marshals up 36-10 and they would go on to out-score Massac County 13-3 in the final frame for the 47-13 win.

Davis led the Lady Marshals with 14 points and was selected MVP of the game. Stoner led Massac County with 7 points. The Lady Marshals will play again in the Hoopfest on Saturday morning at 11:30 against Henderson County.
