CASA to host Chili Challenge and Cornhole Tournament

CASA by the Lakes of Calloway and Marshall counties will host its annual Chili Challenge and Cornhole Tournament on Oct. 22, 2016, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the lower pavilion at Mike Miller Park, located in Draffenville.

The CASA Cornhole Tournament begins promptly at 10 a.m. and will follow American Cornhole Association rules. Registration for this tournament is first come, first serve with a fee of $25 per team.

The CASA Chili Challenge will open to the general public beginning at 12 p.m., closing at 2 p.m. A $5 suggested donation is requested per bowl, receiving one “Crowd Favorite” vote. Additional “Crowd Favorite” votes may be purchased for $1 each.

To compete, teams should make two crock pots of chili, prepared in advance. Each team should provide its own table (no longer than eight feet in length) to decorate in the pre-determined theme. A registration fee of $35 applies to each team registering before Oct. 21.

Set-up begins at 9:30 a.m. and official judging will be held at 11:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places; Crowd Favorite; and Best Booth.

Teams wishing to participate in the CASA Cornhole Tournament and/or the CASA Chili Challenge should request a registration form and additional rules by contacting the CASA by the Lakes office. Registration for both competitions closes on Oct. 21.

This year’s event theme is “Battle of the Holidays.” Participants and the general public are encouraged to dress in costumes reflecting their favorite holiday, and to stand against child abuse during this family-friendly event. Prizes for costumes will be awarded in the following categories: Best Costume, Most Original, Cutest, and Best Overall.

All proceeds from the CASA Chili Challenge and Cornhole Tournament benefit CASA by the Lakes.
