Marshall County Hospital announces community-wide health fair

The Marshall County Health Coalition is hosting its first community-wide health fair on November 3, 2016.  The health fair will run from 8AM-12 Noon at the First United Methodist Church of Benton, located on highway 641 across from the Marshall County Health Department.

The health fair will provide many free screenings to the community such as glucose (fasting is required for this screening), blood pressure, body mass index,  lung volume, grip strength and skin cancer, just to name a few.   Guest speakers will be  presenting on topics such as diabetes, healthy eating, and lung cancer. Flu shots will be available but you must present your insurance card.

The Marshall County Health Coalition is a collaborative effort of interested residents interested in living in a healthier community.   Late last year, the Marshall County Health Department and the Marshall County Hospital joint ventured into a community health needs assessment to survey the residents to seek their opinion on strengths and weaknesses of the healthcare provided in Marshall County.  As a result of that assessment, the health coalition was formed to oversee and strategize on improvements for our weaknesses that were identified as obesity, substance abuse and job preparedness.  Sub-workgroups were formed to address each health concern.  This community-wide health fair is only a small piece of the healthier community puzzle but the coalition is excited to offer these free screenings to our citizens.
