OPINION: Robinson Stands with Workers, Against Right to Work

Paula Robinson, the Republican nominee for the 6th House District, said
Friday that there are many steps Kentucky needs to take to help create jobs
but a ‘right to work’ law doesn’t necessarily need to be one of them.
Robinson is a retired educator and was member of the Kentucky Educators
Association, the state’s teacher’s union.

“Addressing tax reform, reforming and repealing job killing regulations and
fixing our broken pension system will all help to make Kentucky more
attractive to potential employers,” said Robinson.  “The way I see it, until
we have exhausted every single avenue to put Kentuckians to work, we don’t
need to pass a law that will harm the men and women who depend on Unions to
guarantee safe working conditions, bargain for wages and protect their
pensions.  To those union members who live in the district, don’t believe
the lies you might hear, I stand with you.”

“To my fellow Republicans and members of the business community who might
oppose me on this issue, I ask you to recall what Ronald Reagan once said,
‘The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an
ally – not a 20 percent traitor.’  Will Coursey was named a member of the
‘Coalition of the Radical Left’ by the American Conservative Union.  He has
repeatedly stood in the way of reforms that would have made our state more
competitive with our neighbors. He has fought comprehensive tax reform that
would incentivize innovation and entrepreneurism, he has stood in the way of
regulatory reform that would cut the red tape binding the arms of
businesses.  He has fought attempts to fix our broken pension system and
give the state the resources it needs to live up to its obligations to
public employees and teachers like myself.  He is not a friend of business
and certainly not a conservative.”
