On September 14th, Deputy Steven Oakley was dispatched to Nelson Lane in reference to a suspicious person. The caller reported seeing the person going through a tool box that was in a yard and going into a house under construction. Deputy Oakley located the man described and the vehicle. Upon investigation Deputy Oakley found items that had been taken from inside the house under construction in the vehicle. The man admitted to taking the items. Joshua D. Collins age 37 of Benton was arrested and charged with Burglary 3rd Degree and lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.
On September 15th at approximately 6:35pm, Deputy Chris Greenfield was dispatched to a Draffenville Restaurant in reference to a fight. Upon arrival Deputy Greenfield was told that a person was trying to fight all of the patrons in the business. Deputy Greenfield observed the person turn toward the crowd and again try to start a fight. Deputy Greenfield took the man by the arm and tried to take him away from the other patrons. When he did, the man began to resist and was taken to the ground. The man continued to yell obscenities and threaten people at the business. Deputy Greenfield was able to place the man into handcuffs and transport him to Marshall County Hospital Emergency Room. At the emergency room, the man knocked over a bedside tray and created a disturbance. The man found a piece of wire and tried to pick the handcuffs. Deputy Greenfield had placed the handcuffs in the front so that the man could receive medical attention but upon seeing this Deputy Greenfield attempted to move the handcuffs behind the back. The man resisted and even grabbed Deputy Greenfield by the hand and attempted to twist it. Deputy Greenfield deployed his Taser and regained control. The man, identified as Micah S. Keeling age 41 of Mayfield was charged with the following:
Alcohol Intoxication
Disorderly Conduct 2nd Degree
Resisting Arrest
Assault 3rd Degree – Police Officer
Criminal Mischief 2nd Degree
Escape 3rd Degree – Attempted
Keeling was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center. Deputy Greenfield was assisted by Sergeant Jason Lane of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and Officer Ryan Moore of the Benton Police Department.
On 07/05/2016 Detective Lieutenant Matt Hilbrecht opened an investigation in regards to a five week old infant sustaining serious physical injury. The investigation was joint investigation with Department of Community Based Services. That investigation led to a case being presented to the Marshall County Grand Jury on 07/13/2016 in which Cassidy Hodge and Conrad Taylor were indicted for assault first degree. Assault first degree is a class B felony.
