Marshall County Sheriff’s Report – August 15, 2016

On August 10th, Captain Brett Edwards was dispatched to CESA Contractors on US 62. The report states that at some time the previous night someone had entered the fenced area and had stolen a 2004 GMC Sierra and in getting it out had destroyed the double gates. The estimated value of the theft is $7000 and of damage is $5000. The investigation is continuing.

On August 11th at approximately 9:15pm, Deputy Chris Greenfield was dispatched to US 68 in Fairdealing in reference to a possible DUI driver. Prior to Deputy Greenfield’s arrival, Detective Sergeant Tim Reynolds, while on his way returning from training, observed and stopped the vehicle and held it until Deputy Greenfields arrival. The investigation by Detective Sergeant Reynolds and Deputy Greenfield resulted in the arrest of Tyler Smith age 19 of Gilbertsville. According to the citation filed by Deputy Greenfield, Smith had attempted to hide rolling papers in the grass at the location of the traffic stop and later while continuing the investigation at a residence on US 68, the subject attempted to hide synthetic drugs. Smith was charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, Possession of Synthetic Drugs, and Buy / Possess Drug Paraphernalia by Deputy Greenfield. Detective Sergeant Reynolds charged Smith with Speeding 15 MPH Over Limit, One Headlight, License to be in Possession, and Careless Driving.

On August 12th at approximately 5:53pm, Deputy Chris Greenfield was dispatched to Kenlake State Park in reference to a reckless boater. Upon arrival it was reported to Deputy Greenfield that the individual had been operating a jet ski in the no wake zone at higher speed and had struck at least two boats. The investigation led to arrest of Milan Sanghvi age 31 of Austell, GA. Sanghvi was charged with Operating a Boat / Watercraft While Intoxicated and lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

On August 12th at approximately 4:30pm, Deputies Luke Rudd and Chris Greenfield were dispatched to a medical office in Draffenville due to two men in the lobby harassing patients and acting strangely. Upon arrival the two men were walking away from the office at a fast pace. The deputies stopped the two men and as a result of the ensuing investigation Deputy Greenfield arrested Joshua Elliott age 23, address unknown, and charged him with Alcohol Intoxication in Public Place 1st or 2nd Offense. Deputy Rudd arrested Billy R. May age 61 of Gilbertsville and charged him with Public Intoxication – Controlled Substance. Both were lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

On August 13th at approximately 3:19pm Deputy Chris Greenfield was dispatched to Hardin in reference to a possibly intoxicated driver. The caller had stated that the vehicle had hit a tree and was now in the ditch. Prior to Deputy Greenfields arrival, the operator had gotten the vehicle out of the ditch and was observed driving on KY 402. Deputy Greenfield conducted a traffic stop and as a result, Trisha Hollingsworth age 44 of Benton was charged with DUI and Possession of Open Alcoholic Beverage in Motor Vehicle.

On August 13th at approximately 1:30am, Deputy Nathan Maxlow was on patrol on US 68. Deputy Maxlow observed a vehicle weaving and conducted a traffic stop. Upon further investigation, the driver, Nicholas R. Blanchard age 19 of Benton was arrested and charged with the following: DUI, Failure to Produce Insurance Card, No Registration Receipt, No Registration Plates, Possession of Marijuana, and Buy / Possess Drug Paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

On August 13th at approximately 8:40pm, Sheriff Kevin Byars went to a residence on US 62 as part of an investigation. While at the residence, a man pulled into the driveway and into the yard. Sheriff Byars made contact with the man and discovered he was intoxicated. Sheriff Byars arrested William D. Mathis age 39 of Calvert City and charged him with DUI 2nd Offense. He was lodged in the Marshall County Detention Center.

On August 13 at approximately 2:05 am, Deputies Nathan Maxlow and Josh Anderson stopped two vehicles that were driving recklessly. When Deputy Anderson approached one of the cars, he could smell an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Further investigation resulted in Deputy Anderson seizing a glass jar in a bag containing marijuana, two glass pipes, and a set of digital scales. Brandon L. Fuentes 18 of Benton was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Buy / Possess Drug Paraphernalia. He was cited to appear in Marshall District Court on the charges and is expected to do so later this month.

On August 14th at approximately 3:30pm, Deputy Chris Greenfield was in the process of serving a warrant from Calloway County on Phillip Nyert age 34 of Murray when he discovered that Nyert had marijuana and rolling papers on his person. Nyert was charged with Possession of Marijuana and Buy / Possess Drug Paraphernalia. He was cited to appear in Marshall District Court on the new charges.

On August 14th at approximately 8:00pm, Deputy Chris Greenfield was dispatched to Reed Road in reference to an intoxicated person. Upon arrival, Deputy Greenfield found Danielle M. Grim age 38 of Paducah manifestly under the influence and asleep in a yard. Due to the extreme level of intoxication, Deputy Greenfield requested EMS to respond and transport Grim to Marshall County Hospital. Grim became hostile towards EMS and had to be restrained. Grim struck the doctor and was very belligerent. Upon transport to the jail, Grim tried to kick the windows from the police vehicle as well. Grim was charged with Alcohol Intoxication in Public Place, Assault 3rd Degree ( EMS / Fire / Rescue ), Disorderly Conduct.

This past week shows Deputies responding to 420 calls for service. This includes 21 traffic crashes, 8 motorist assists, 12 traffic stops, 5 DUI complaints, 3 reckless driver complaints, 85 extra patrols, 4 burglaries, 5 thefts, 21 disturbances / fights / domestics, 2 emergency protective orders, 5 alcohol intoxication complaints, 6 drug incidents, 3 assaults, 14 suspicious persons, 7 suspicious vehicles, 3 follow up investigations, 5 welfare checks, 13 prisoner transports, 38 need to speak to officer, 27 warrant service attempts, and 21 civil paper attempts.

Deputies from the Court Security Division report the following activity for this week. 12 session of court attended, 37 inmates moved to and from court, 2721 people checked into judicial building, 18 out of county adult transports, 1 out of state adult transport, and 53 vehicles inspected.
