Up to 8 Inches of Rain Possible Through Monday in the Lakes Area

This summer has been notorious for frequent torrential rains, and meteorologists say that trend will continue this weekend.

The National Weather Service in Paducah has issued a hydrologic outlook that includes several rounds of showers and thunderstorms across the region through early next week.

The potential for heavy rain is highest on Saturday, when tropical moisture moves over the area. From Saturday through Monday, a large part of the region will likely see 3 or 4 inches of rainfall. Local amounts of over 7 to 8 inches are possible.

The ground is still fairly wet from recent rains, and the additional rain could lead to some flooding in low-lying areas.

Confidence is high that the rain will occur, but forecasters say it’s too early to pinpoint the likely areas of the heaviest rain.
