Thousands still without insurance in Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, KY – According to a new report, despite a huge drop in the number of Kentuckians without healthcare coverage, a large number are still not covered.

Some 300,000 Kentuckians are still without healthcare coverage through 2015, following one of the largest drops of uninsured in the nation.

Those who are unable to access coverage through Medicaid expansion are young adults, those of Hispanic or Latino heritage, or those with low incomes. They also are likely to have only a high school diploma or not completed high school.

The report, released by Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky, found that about 76% of Kentuckians enrolled in “kynect” in 2016 received some financial assistance, that’s up from 69% the year before.
