Good start for golf teams in early season tournaments

LEXINGTON – Hallie Riley placed 2nd overall with a 3-over 75 on the 6,754 yard Greenbrier Country Club course in Lexington to lead the team to a 6th place finish with a team score of 366 in the Scott County Invitational. Scott County took first with a team total of 335.

Also scoring for the Lady Marshals was Megan Hertter with 91, Savannah Howell shot 97 and Kennadi Spraggs carded a 103 to make up the team score. Sydney Phillips also played in the tournament and shot 115.

The team played today in the Kentucky Cup at the UK Club Wildcat Course in Lexington and placed 3rd out of 16 teams with a score of 357. Riley shot an 8-over 79 which put her in a tie for 5th place in the tournament. Scoring along with Riley was Howell with 88, Spraggs 93 and Phillips shot 96 to make up the team score while Hertter shot 97.

The boy’s team will tee it up on Wednesday in the Kentucky Cup and also played on Monday in Bowling Green in the Olde Stone Invitational.

Quinn Eaton led scoring with a 2-over par 74 followed by Jay Nimmo at 75, Garrett Howell 82 and Tyler Powell 82 for a team score of 312 for 7th in the field of 17 teams. Grant Hackney also played for the Marshals and shot 89.

St. Xavier won the tournament with a 5-over score of 293 and McCracken County placed 3rd with 303.
