NWS issues Flash Flood WATCH for our area

The National Weather Service office in Paducah has issued a flash flood watch for a portion of western Kentucky and southern Illinois until 10 p.m.
Western Kentucky counties include Graves, Livingston, Marshall, Calloway, Crittenden, Lyon, Caldwell and Trigg. Southern Illinois counties include Johnson, Massac and Pope.
Tremendous rainfall amounts and resultant flooding over the watch area recently will heighten the flood risk again today, as scattered storms with heavy rainfall potential develop yet again.
All of today’s storms will be capable of intense locally heavy downpours. Any such rainfall will quickly become runoff, since it will fall on such saturated ground from the previous heavy rains.
As a result, even for areas where conditions have improved, renewed flash flooding could occur quickly.
If a flash flood warning is issued for your area, seek higher ground and move away from flood-prone areas immediately.
