On Monday June 20th Captain Brett Edwards observed Denny L. Cope 39, of Benton, leave the Sheriff’s Office parking lot that was confirmed by dispatch to have a suspended license. Captain Edwards conducted a traffic stop on Commerce Street. While attempting to locate an insurance card, Captain Edwards located digital scales and other drug paraphernalia. There was also a shotgun with a pistol grip located in the vehicle and Cope is a convicted felon. Additional investigation revealed that the substance on the spoon field tested positive for methamphetamine. There were several small baggies and cash located in Cope’s possession. Cope was arrested and charged with Operating on DUI Suspended License, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Firearm By Convicted Felon and Trafficking Controlled Substance 2nd Degree.
