NWS releases Special Weather Statement regarding heat index

The National Weather Service office in Paducah has issued a special weather statement this afternoon about a triple-digit heat index for the area today.

High humidity combined with actual temperatures in the mid-90s will result in maximum heat index values from 100 to 105.

Use extreme caution if you have to be outside for an extended period of time this afternoon.

Isolated thundershowers are also possible in the heat today. The chance for scattered thunderstorms will remain through Thursday.

Today is expected to be the hottest day of the week. If the air temperature reaches 96, it would tie the record high for the date, set in 1953.
