PADUCAH – Hickman County jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over the Marshals before they tied the game 1-1 in the 3rd inning on an RBI single by Lucas Forsythe that scored Justice Beal in Monday’s opening round of the Region 1 Baseball Tournament at McCracken County High School.
The Marshals put together a 3-run 4th inning on singles by Cameron Ives and Cole Griggs. Cole Austin’s sacrifice scored Austin Stockdale, courtesy runner for Ives, to give the Marshals the lead followed by a run scored by Griggs on an error and RBI single by Drake Anderson to take a 4-1 lead.
The Marshals added one more run in the 5th when Justice Beal scored on a fielder’s choice following a hit by Austin. They threatened again in the 6th when Cody Clark walked with 2 outs and Justice Beal singled, but both were left stranded with the 3rd out.
Ives went the distance on the mound, striking out 10, walking 1, allowing 5 hits and 1 run for the win.
The Marshals will meet Mayfield in tonight’s semi-finals at 7:30 after the Cardinals pulled off a 10-inning 4-3 win over Tilghman. The other semi final game at 5:00 will be McCracken County and Murray. McCracken beat Ballard 12-0 in 5 innings to advance and Murray beat Carlisle 10-0 in 5 innings.
