NWS issues warning of severe weather in our area

The National Weather Service office in Paducah has issued a hazardous weather outlook concerning the possibility of severe storms on Tuesday, and more so on Wednesday.

Tuesday’s strongest threat of dangerous weather looks to be well west of us. Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma are in the bullseye for a moderate risk of tornadoes and severe thunderstorms. “Moderate” is the 4th of a five-level risk chart.

Tuesday has a marginal risk of severe weather for southern Illinois and the Ohio River counties of western Kentucky. “Marginal” is the lowest of the five levels of risk. Locally heavy rainfall and lightning will be the primary concerns on Tuesday.

By Wednesday, our region’s risk steps up a notch to a slight chance for severe storms in Kentucky west of the lakes area, for all of southern Illinois and for extreme west Tennessee. Large hail and damaging winds will be possible Wednesday into Wednesday night. A tornado or two cannot be ruled out, and heavy rain and lightning will be prevalent.

A few storms may linger into Thursday, then could come and go from Friday night through Monday.
