A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans temporary night lane restrictions along Interstate 24 westbound starting at the US 62 Exit 27 Interchange and extending to the I-24/Julian Carroll-Purchase Parkway Interchange at Calvert City. These night lane restrictions with a night closure of the US 62 ramp to westbound I-24 will start Wednesday, April 13, 2016, and continue nightly for about a week. The westbound lanes of Interstate 24 will be restricted to one lane at night to allow installation of a barrier wall along the westbound shoulder area starting at the I-24/US 62 Exit 27 Interchange. This temporary night lane restriction for westbound traffic on I-24 is expected to be in place from 8 p.m., CDT, to 6:00 a.m. During placement of the barrier wall all westbound I-24 traffic will be moved to the left-hand or passing lane in this work zone. The ramp from US 62 to I-24 westbound at the Exit 27 Interchange will be closed during this night work. All work should be completed and 4-lane traffic restored by 6:00 a.m., CDT, each day. Again, the night lane restriction is expected to continue through about Tuesday, April 19th, except Sunday. Motorists seeking to access I-24 westbound from US 62 should self-detour via US 62 west to the Purchase Parkway southbound to access I-24 westbound lanes at Exit 25. The barrier wall being installed along the westbound shoulder is to prepare for a traffic shift in this area in coming months. This is part of an extended work zone at the existing Interstate 24 Exit 25 and Purchase Parkway Exit 52 interchange aimed at allowing Interstate 69 to be extended southward along the Purchase Parkway. This work zone includes a 55 mile per hour speed limit with an enhanced enforcement presence and double fines. Jim Smith Contracting of Grand Rivers is the prime contractor on the $37.8 million interchange reconstruction project. The new I-24/I-69 Calvert City interchange has a target completion date of July 1, 2018. The Transportation Cabinet will issue additional traffic advisories as work progresses to a point where it impacts traffic flow. All main line traffic connections through the interchange will be maintained during the construction process.
