CFS Lady Eagles head into Spring Break with 7-4 record

DRAFFENVILLE – In four games over two days last Friday and Saturday, the CFS Lady Eagles went 3-1 with the one loss coming from Dawson Springs that snapped the Lady Eagles 3-game win streak. CFS went on to beat Mayfield in their second game on Saturday and lost Tuesday to Trigg County for a record of 7-4 before they take rest from competition over Spring Break.

The weekend of games began on Friday in a double-header sweep at home against Fort Campbell. In the first game, the Lady Eagles won 5-2 in 5 innings on 3 hits. A 2-run single by Maddie Ortt, ground out by Abbie Fletcher and ground out by Grace Miller put them up early 4-0 on their way to the win. Ortt pitched 5 innings, striking out 10 and allowing 5 hits and 2 runs

Game two of the double-header, the Lady Eagles won 7-6 in 5 innings on 10 hits, getting the win in their final at bat, tied 6-6 when Amber Shelley’s pop up out brought in Rachel Howard. Shelley and Maddie Hatton both hit doubles and Edie Little was 2/3 with 2 RBIs. Ortt struck out 10 in 5 innings, allowing 10 hits and 6 runs.


Two game on Saturday at Mayfield began with a loss to Dawson Springs which snapped the Lady Eagles 3-game win streak. Dawson Springs won 14-4 in 7 innings on 16 hits. The Lady Panthers led 7-0 after the top of the 3rd inning when CFS got on the board on a 2-run single by Little. A sacrifice fly by Fletcher and single by Tristan Sanders scored their final two runs in the bottom of the 4th to close the Dawson Springs lead to 7-4. Dawson Springs doubled their run count to close out the game with the win.

In their second game on Saturday, CFS scored 8 runs in the 5th and 8 in the 7th to beat Mayfield 22-9 in 7 innings on 19 hits. Howard was 3 for 6 at the plate with a 4th inning home run and 2 RBIs. Little was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs and Miller 2/3 with a double and RBI to led the hitters. Ortt pitched 7 innings, struck out 11 and gave up 12 hits and 9 runs.


Tuesday, the Lady Eagles fell to Trigg County 5-3 after leading 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th. Trigg County scored 3 runs in the 8th for the win. Abigail Cima led the Lady Eagle hitters going 3 for 4 with a double and RBI.

CFS is 7-4 and will play next on April 12th against Ballard Memorial in the 1st Region All ‘A’ Classic in Murray.
