Marshals win first two behind pitching from Goins and Ives

Baseball season officially opened for the Marshals last Thursday at St. Mary with an 11-3 win over the Vikings. J.C. Goins got the win pitching 5 innings and striking out 4 batters. The Marshals were led by Cody Clark who went 4 for 4 at the plate with 3 doubles and 4 RBI’s.

Against McLean County on Saturday, the Marshals won 11-4 on 7 hits and 3 errors.

Leading 6-1 after 5 innings, the Marshals put the game away with a 5-run 6th innings that began on walks by Jackson Beal and Justice Beal.

A single by Camerson Ives brought both in for 2 runs followed by a walk by Goins and 2-run error by McLean.

Ives got the win on the mound working 6 innings, allowing 5 hits, 4 runs and striking out 9 batters.

In their second game on Saturday against Caldwell County, the Marshals led 7-1 after 4 innings but the Tigers tied the game 7-7 after the 6th inning and went on to win 8-7 in the bottom of the 9th on a 2-out single by Jase Felker that scoring a run for the walk-off win.
