Construction approved for Calvert City trail

The Calvert City Council has approved design work for a new trail off of Hwy 62 at their Monday night meeting.

The trail is part of a state project to revamp the Interchange of U.S. 62 and Interstate 24 and Interstate 69.

It would stretch than three miles from Memorial Park in Calvert City to Kentucky Dam State Park.

Calvert City is in charge of plans for a stretch from Memorial Park to U.S. 62, while the state will build the rest into Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park.

It would be a 10 foot wide, multi-use trail.

As the city works on the portion of the trail to U.S. 62, the state is building another 1.5 mile extension to the trail starting where the city’s portion of the project ends.

It will cost the city about $1 million. The city is looking into grants to help pay for it.

Project completion date is set for the summer of 2017.
