Mr. Paul Harrington, Jr., age 87 of Calvert City, KY passed away Sunday, February 28, 2016, at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center in Paducah, KY.
Born Thursday, January 17, 1929 in Newbern, TN, he was the son of the late Paul Harrington, Sr., and Evelyn (Porter) Harrington of Calvert City, KY.
Paul was a Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He also worked at the Ballistic Missile Early Warning System in Clear, Alaska during the cold war. He was appointed a Kentucky Colonel for his antenna survey work in Marshall County.
Paul was a lifetime Boy Scout as a child and an adult leader. He was awarded The Boy Scouts of America’s Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Service to Youth. He earned his sail plane pilots license.
He was a lifetime learner and teacher in his work with the scouts, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His hobbies included gardening, target shooting, the Spanish language, camping, canoeing the rivers, photography and any activities he could enjoy with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Frances (Priestley) Harrington of Calvert City, KY, two sons, James Priestley Harrington, wife Angela of Benton, KY and Paul Harrington, III, wife Debbie of Versailles, KY, daughter, Mary Ellen Nelson, husband Ronnie of Benton, KY, his mother, Evelyn (Porter) Harrington of Calvert City, KY, two brothers, Steve Harrington of Calvert City, KY and Mike Harrington of Calvert City, KY. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Paul Harrington IV, Nicholas Dlle Harrington, James Bradley Harrington, Jesse Nelson, Kristen Nelson Carper, James
Austin P. Harrington, Ian Neil Harrington, Charolette Abby Harrington and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers and two sisters.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. in the East Side Cemetery, Martin TN. Ron Nelson will officiate. Interment will follow the service.
Friends may visit with the family between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the Collier Funeral Home, 211 West 5th St., Benton, KY.
