Lady Marshals down Ashland Blazer 63-39 in LaRosa’s Holiday Classic

HEBRON, Ky. – Proud of his team for bouncing back after Monday’s loss to Notre Dame, Coach Joseph Simmons said in post-game comments that his team played much harder in Tuesday’s win over Ashland Blazer out of Region 16. Ashland lost 48-35 to Highlands on Monday setting them up against the Lady Marshals in Tuesday’s LaRosa’s Holiday Classic games.lady marshals-ashland 3

The Lady Marshals took control from the tip-off with four straight points from Hannah Langhi and a basket by Nikki Fehrenbacher for a 6-0 lead. Tera Colson hit a three and two free throws to put the Lady Marshals up 13-2, ending the quarter on two straight baskets by Miyah Davis and a 3-pointer from Briley English for a 20-8 lead.

The Lady Marshals out-scored Ashland 15-9 in the second quarter behind two three’s from English for a 35-17 halftime lead.

Both teams scored 14 third quarter points with 10 Lady Marshal points coming from Davis who hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the quarter on a 49-31 lead.

Marshall County out-scored Ashland 14-8 in the final quarter for a 63-39 win, extending their season record to 10-3. They will meet Harlan County in the 5th place game on Wednesday at 10:30 am (CST). Harlan County beat Muhlenberg County 56-49 on Tuesday.

Davis led the Lady Marshals with 18 points, English had 13, Langhi 10, Henson 9, Colson 5 and 4 each for Fehrenbacher and Howard. Mykassa Robinson led Ashland with 19 points.
