The Lady Marshals had to get past a good Arlington, TN team on Tuesday, out-sized and up against Wake Forest signee Raegyn Branch, the Lady Marshals trailed by one after the first quarter and by two at halftime (28-26).
They opened the second half on baskets by Lexee Miller and Briley English which led to a 32-30 lead halfway through the quarter. Tied 37-37, a basket by Nikki Fehrenbacher put the Lady Marshals up by two before Arlington tied the game 39-39 at the end of the quarter.
Four lead changes in the fourth quarter until with 3:20 to go, free throws by Langhi put the Lady Marshals on top 47-46, a lead they would not relinquish the remainder of the game.
With 14 seconds to go and up 55-52, a three attempt to tie the game by Arlington was no good with Miller coming up with the rebound and fouled which sent her to the line, sinking one of two to put the game out of reach in the closing seconds for a 56-52 win.
In post-game comments, Head Coach Joseph Simmons said the win was a “total team effort and everyone that played contributed to the win.”
“We didn’t play perfect, but played aggressive against a team that played man to man, full court press the entire game”, Simmons said.
Simmons said it was a huge win for his ball club and felt they executed well down the stretch.
Briley English led the Lady Marshals with 17 points hitting 5 of 7 from three-point range. Hannah Langhi posted another double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
