
BENTON – Marshall County High School hosted the 1st Region Class 1A, 2A and 3A Cross Country Championships Saturday. In girl’s and boy’s Class 3A races a combined 135 runners toed the start line in hopes of qualifying for the KHSAA State Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 7th, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.
In the 3A girl’s race, Daviess County took first placing six of their runners in the top 10. Daviess County qualified for the state meet along with the next four placing teams at the meet including Owensboro, Graves County, McCracken County and Muhlenberg County. The Marshall County girls placed 9th in the regional meet.

Daviess County also took first on the boy’s side, edging out Madisonville North-Hopkins in 2nd, Apollo took 3rd, McCracken County 4th and Graves County 5th. All five teams qualified for the state meet. The Marshall County boys placed 7th but qualified one runner on time. Matt Ray placed 21st in the meet in 18:03.43 and will be competing at the state meet.
Daviess County’s Kate Rhoads took 1st in the girl’s Class 3A race in 19:23.81 with teammates Karlee Hoffman and Olivia Wilson right behind her in 2nd and 3rd.
Spring Dolbee turned in the best time for Marshall County placing 28th in 22:18.89. The rest of the girls finishes were as follows: 37. Hadley Pagel (22:48.24) 42. Valerie Shutt (23:45.38) 44. Jordyn Ray (23:57.06) 49. Bailey Sandlin (24:19.84) 57. Jade Ford (25:52.88) 58. Sarah Knoth (26:02.02).
Graves County’s Marcos Macias continued his successful season with a 1st place finish for the Class 3A boys in a time of 16:19.00. Six runners crossed in under 17 minutes with Daviess County placing four in the 10 ten.
Following Ray’s 21st place in the meet, Marshall finishes included: 28. Jackson Yates (18:21.39) 39. Joseph Reed (18:48.48) 46. Jackson Reed (19:12.92) 51. Kyle McClain (19:29.17) 52. Cole Wyatt (19:29.53) 61. Jacob Hainaut (20:43.15).
In Class 2A, Livi Ricks from Trigg County took 1st in 20:57.95 and the team from Paducah Tilghman took first qualifying for the state meet along with Ft. Campbell in 2nd and Trigg County in 3rd.
The Class 2A boy’s race was won by Webster County’s Michael Shelton in 16:38.67. Webster County took 1st, Trigg County 2nd and Tilghman 3rd. All three teams will make the trip to the state meet.
University Height’s Muki Kunnmann won the girl’s Class 1A race in 20:56.30 and in second place, also qualifying for state was Christian Fellowship’s Anya McCombs in 21:47.07. Dawson Springs won the Class 1A race and will be headed to the state meet.
In boy’s Class 1A results, Hickman County’s Nick Coffey took 1st in 18:11.32. Fulton City took 1st place and qualified for the state meet along with 2nd place Dawson Springs and 3rd place Hickman County.
