
MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Marshall County High School leads the Tennessee High School Cycling League standings after two races with 2,314 points over St. Andrews-Sewanee with 2,058 points and Harpeth Youth Cycling in third with 2,048 points as the top three teams.
The Marshals took first place in six of the eight divisions with six riders leading in the points total after two races, earning the privilege of wearing the Leader’s Jersey and they are freshman Bobby Jones, sophomores McKenzie Tack and Jaron Wood, JV riders Audrey Grizzard and Karlee Jones (tied) and varsity rider Karson Grizzard.

The six riders taking the top spot on the podium Sunday in the Varsity race – Carson Beckett and Karson Grizzard, JV race – Audrey Grizzard and Isaac Bayer, Sophomore race – McKenzie Tack and Freshman race – Bobby Jones. The Marshals occupied 15 of the 32 podium spots during the awards ceremony.
Course laps were approximately five miles in length with the Varsity boys taking four laps of the course. Beckett crossed in first in a time of 1:27.06 and teammate Justice Beal took 5th in 1:43.20.
The JV boys took four of the five podium places with Isaac Bayer taking first with a 3-lap time of 1:12.06. Travis Tack was third in 1:12.51, Colton Adrian fourth in 1:13.57 and Bailey Mohler fifth in 1:14.33.
Jaron Wood placed second in the Sophomore boy’s race with a 2-lap time of 49:19 and eighth place went to Alex Parker in 57::54. The 2-lap Freshman boy’s race was won by Bobby Jones in 45:09, Grant Wilson took third in 46:50, Kyle McClain sixth in 51:58 and Drew Coleman 15th in 1:01.56.
The 3-lap Varsity girls race was won by Karson Grizzard in 1:26.26, taking the win by over six minutes. Audree Grizzard won the 3-lap girl’s JV race in 1:26.28 and Karlee Jones took second in 1:32.46.
McKenzie Tack took first in the Sophomore girl’s race with a 2-lap time of 59:29 with third going to Victoria Alexander in 1:04.38. Sixth grader, Alyssa McClain, after her performance in the middle school division in race one, was moved up to the Freshman division where the Marshals were in need of a rider and took second on the day in a 2-lap time of 1:05.55, just 52 seconds behind the leader.
In the middle school 1-lap race, Marshall’s Briar Cornwell crossed in a time of 33:55 and Gracie Barrett in 35:52. Clay Austin had the fastest overall time in the 2-lap race in 51:44 and Kaleb Cosby the third fastest in 55:04. Joseph Roberts was the third fastest Marshall middle schooler to finish in 57:47.
More Marshall middle school finishes came from Jaxon Story in 58:44, Carson Denfip crossed in 1:00.14 and Kaden Jameson in 1:02.16.
Race #3 of the season is on October 11th in Knoxville, Tennessee.
