Upon the recommendation of the zoning and planning committee, the Benton City Council has voted to allow packaged alcohol sales at the distance of 1000’ from any school, library or daycare and 500’ from any church.

The Benton City Council met for their regular meeting on Monday night and decided to allow packaged sales to commence upon the recommendation of the planning and zoning committee.

“I’m glad to have it resolved. We have a lot of work ahead of us to get everything organized and ready for people to start getting license,” said Benton Mayor Rita Dotson.

Councilman Chris Freeland said, “We only have up to two stores going in, so I’m fine with the zoning committee’s recommendation.”

Charles Edmonds and Sherra Riley were the only two council members who opposed and voted against the recommendation.
