UPDATE: All lanes are now open.
UPDATE: The westbound lanes of I-24 have reopened at this site. Eastound lanes are still closed and expected to remain closed for up to another hour.

This closure is in response to the following request from Kentucky State Police:
WE ARE ON A TRAFFIC STOP AT THE 47 MM AND THE VEHICLE HAS A POSSIBLE IED INSIDE.
A BOMB SQUAD IS ON SCENE.  THE TEAM HAS REQUESTED WE SHUT INTERSTATE 24 DOWN IN BOTH  DIRECTIONS.

From Kentucky Transportation Cabinet:
Interstate 24 is being closed to all traffic between Exit 45 and Exit 54 due to a
police emergency.

Both Eastbound and Westbound lanes are closed at this time.

KYTC personnel are establishing a detour via KY 93 through southern Lyon County
between Exit 45 and Exit 54.

Motorists traveling this detour route should use caution due to heavy traffic flow.

Closure duration is estimated at 2 hours.
