UPDATED: Police reports indicate the victim in Tuesday’s collision on I-24 has succumbed to her injuries after being airlifted to Deaconess Tuesday.
MARSHALL COUNTY – An injury collision on I-24 injured two people on Tuesday, one victim being airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. According to police reports, shortly before 5 p.m., Deputy Dennis Lewis was dispatched to I24 E between the 19 and 20 mile markers in reference to a collision with injuries.
Both Lorene E. Dodd 32, of Benton, and Tammy T. Cherry 49, of Cadiz, were traveling east on I24 when, due to the one lane construction zone, traffic had slowed and/or stopped.
Cherry was stopped in the left lane of traffic and Dodd was in the right lane when traffic slowed to a stop causing her to swerve left, striking Cherry’s vehicle in the rear. Both vehicles left the roadway after impact and came to rest off the shoulder of the road.
Dodd was transported from the scene by EMS to Lourdes hospital for treatment of her injuries. Cherry was treated on scene by EMS and transported to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN by PHI for treatment of her injuries.
