Records fall, new PR’s, in Saturday’s KHSAA Class 3A State Track and Field Championships

LEXINGTON – Five state records were broken at yesterday’s KHSAA Class 3A State Track and Field Championships in Lexington as three Marshall County individuals and two relays finished in the medals, a few setting new PR’s in the process.

The best finish of the day for Marshall County came in the boy’s 4 x 800 with a 3rd place finish for Jacob Carnine, Collin Gunn, Austin Shackleford and Robert Blankenship in 8:07.29, a new best time for the group. St. Xavier took 1st in 7:51.09 breaking the schools own state record from 2012.

Nathan Solomon finished in the medals in 8th in the 400 meters in 51.07 with 1st place going to Paul Dunbar’s William Allen in 47.09, breaking the state and 3A record from 2010. Solomon also placed 11th in the 200 in 22.81 and 12th in the long jump with 20’3.75″.Cody Gregory's vault of 12' was good for 5th in the state.

Stephanie Russell medaled in the 300 meter hurdles taking 7th in 47.47 with 1st going to Ke’Asia Johnson of Eastern in 44.86. Russell placed 11th in the 100 meter hurdles in 16.15.

The boy’s 4 x 400 meter relay team of Blankenship, Carnine, Shackleford and Solomon medaled in 6th with a new PR time of 3:30.08. The team from Paul Dunbar took 1st in 3:21.02.

Casey Gregory’s pole vault of 12′ earned him 5th place while North Hardin’s Antonia Parker took 1st with 14’6″.

Overall, a great day for the team and here’s a summary of the rest of the Marshall County results.

Bailey Sandlin, Spring Dolbee, Camryn Crass and Melissa Ross who make up the girl’s 4 x 800 meter relay finished 21st in 10:51.30. Assumption took 1st in a time of 9:38.18

Sydney Goff was 14th in the girl’s 100 meter hurdles in 16.95 with North Hardin’s Kianna Gray taking 1st in 14.53.

In the boy’s 100 meter hurdles, Jack Brown was 20th in 16.98, just one of two freshman in the 3-heat event. Isaiah McCall of Bryan Station took 1st in 14.80.

The girl’s 4 x 200 meter relay team of Russell, Lexie Myers, Kara Kelley and Goff placed 10th in 1:49.24 with the team from Bryan Station capturing 1st in 1:41.05.

The girl’s 4 x 400 meter relay team set a new PR of 4:16.34 by Myers, Jazmine Rozycke, Goff and Ross. First went to Dupont Manual in 3:57.29.

Collin Gunn ran a new personal best time of 4:39.61 in the 1600 meters, placing 21st. Tates Creek’s Ben Young took 1st in 4:10.15 setting a new state and 3A record, breaking the old record set in 2002.

The girl’s 4 x 100 meter relay team of Jennifer Townsend, Brandy Baas, Russell and Kelley earned an 11th place finish in 51.17. Bryan Station took 1st in 48.53.

Baas placed 19th in the girl’s 300 meter hurdles in 50.79.

Jacob Carnine finished just one spot out of the medals in 9th in the 800 meters in 2:01.15. First place went to Central Hardin’s Christian Wright in 1:52.66.

Sydney Nelson took 17th in the girl’s shot put event with a throw of 31′.02.25″. Scott County’s Halee Hudson took 1st in 39′.02.25″.

Amber Crawford placed 13th in the discus with a throw of 95’8″. Hudson of Scott County was 1st with 124’10”.

In the girl’s long jump, Goff placed 20th with a jump of 15’2″ with Butler’s Alexis Gibbons taking 1st with 18’9.25″.

Michaela Manley took 13th place in the high jump with 4’10” with 1st going to East Jessamine’s Taliyah Colone with 5’4″.

Drey Reed’s high jump of 5’10” was good for 15th as Henry Clay’s Jaron Brooks jump of 6’10” took 1st.

In the girl’s pole vault, Audrey Grizzard earned 11th with 8′ and teammate Haley Swift was 21st with 7′. The winning vault came from Kristina Leggas of Lafayette with 11’6″.
