PADUCAH – McCracken County Lady Mustangs, ranked #1 in the state, have only had six points scored against them from Region 1 teams this season, all six by the Marshall County Lady Marshals who broke into the top 25 this week at #23 in the weekly coaches poll. The Lady Mustangs beat the Lady Marshals 13-3 in six innings on 17 hits Tuesday evening at McCracken County High School.
The first points of the game came from McCracken County in the bottom of the third for a 1-0 lead until the bottom of the fourth, when the Lady Mustangs put together a 7-run inning that began with singles by Keely Barnes and Rachel Ridolfi, going on to score the runs on two outs on a single by Taylor Poindexter, double by Tori Humphrey, singles by Kelsee Henson and Hannah Ridolfi and a triple from Kalli Harris for an 8-0 lead.
The Lady Marshals got out of the fifth inning, leaving two stranded for McCracken County and in the top of the sixth, put three runs on the board on a 1-out single by Lexee Miller, Chaney Stearns reached on an error and Abby Fiessinger singled to load the bases.
Payton Smothers reached on an error that scored Miller and a bunt by Kenslie Cross scored Stearns. Bailey Murphy reached base on a fielder’s choice as Fiessinger was thrown out a home for the second out of the inning. Hailey Harrell reached on an error with Smothers crossing home plate to cut the McCracken County lead to 8-3.
The Lady Mustangs put the game away in the bottom of the sixth adding five runs on three hits and three Marshall errors.
Marshall County wraps up regular season play this week at home on Friday against Madisonville North Hopkins. Thursday’s home game against Henderson County has been cancelled.
Monday, May 18th, the Lady Marshals will play in the championship game of the district tournament at 7:00 at Murray High against the winner of the Murray-Calloway County game which takes place at 5:00.
