DRAFFENVILLE – The Kentucky Lake Chamber of Commerce in Marshall County is pleased to announce that the Benton Dairy Queen Grill & Chill has been named “Business of the Month” for the month of May.
Perhaps you were around and remember when Charlie & Wilma Edmonds built and opened the Burger Queen facility at 330 North Main Street back in 1976. This was the beginning of what is now the Benton Dairy Queen Grill & Chill and this month’s Business of the Month, a staple in Benton for about 39 years now. If you don’t remember Burger Queen, then maybe you remember a few years later when Burger Queen decided to get away from the stigma of just being a burger place, so it changed over to a Druthers Restaurant in 1979, adding chicken options and a salad bar to the menu.
Then in 1991 Dairy Queen bought out the Druthers franchise, thus producing the Benton Dairy Queen we have grown to love over the years. As with many owners of franchises, the Edmonds family rolled along quite successfully through all of these changes, then was tasked with converting the restaurant into a full scale Grill & Chill Restaurant, adding even more menu options and they did up right too with a complete remodel of the facility in 2007 to the beautiful establishment it is today.
In 2009 Charlie & Wilma decided to retire from the Dairy Queen business so their daughter Allison and husband Craig Clark and their daughter Jennifer and her husband Tommy Jezik bought the business, so it still remains in the family today and on occasion you can still find Charlie there hanging out with the faithful coffee drinkers.
In March of this year, the Benton Dairy Queen Grill & Chill launched a set of more new menu items called DQ Bakes and all indications are that they are a big hit. Not to worry, they still have all your favorite breakfast lunch and dinner items available at reasonable prices, plus many options for your sweet tooth or ice cream cravings, even ice cream cakes for those special occasions.
Hours of operation for the Benton Dairy Queen Grill & Chill are Monday–Saturday from 6:00 am until 10:00 pm, and Sunday 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. Be sure and get by there soon to check out the new items and congratulate them on being selected “Business of the Month”.
