PADUCAH – Marshall County and Paducah Tilghman boys were neck and neck in team standings in Friday’s Area 1 Championships at McCracken County High School, but a 1-2 finish in the 800 meters and first place in the 4 x 400 meter relay put the Marshals out in front to take the team win with 117 points over Tilghman in second with 96 and McCracken County taking third with 89 points.
The Area 1 Championships also included teams from Ft. Campbell, Calloway County, Henderson County, Graves County, Christian County, Fulton County, Mayfield, Ballard Memorial, Dawson Springs, Crittenden County, Lyon County and Livingston Central.
Top individual results for the boys included Nathan Solomon’s first place finish in the long jump, third in the 400 meters and fourth in the 200 meters.
Austin Shackleford and Jacob Carnine took first and second in the 800 meters, Collin Gunn placed first in the 1600 meters and Casey Gregory took second in the pole vault.
Freshman hurdlers Jack Brown and Tyler Hega took fourth and sixth in the 110 meter hurdles, switching it up in the 300 meter hurdles with Hega in fourth and Brown taking fifth and in the longest running event of the meet, Eli English took fourth in the 3200 meters.
Two relay teams captured first including the 4 x 400 team of Nathan Solomon, Austin Shackleford, Robert Blankenship and Jacob Carnine and the 4 x 800 foursome of Collin Gunn, Dax Parker, Joseph Reed and Blankenship.
The Marshall girls placed third behind Murray in first with 137, Hopkinsville second with 98 and Marshall with 82.50 points.
For the girls, Stephanie Russell took third in both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, Sydney Nelson placed third in the shot put, Keagin Brooks placed fourth in the discus and relay teams took third in all four relay events.
The team will compete on Saturday, May 16th, in the Regional Championships at McCracken County.
