BENTON – A juvenile from Benton Middle School has been taken into custody after allegedly making threats that he was going to place a bomb in the school principal’s office. According to police reports, the incident occurred this morning prompting school officials to contact Marshall County Deputy and School Resource Officer, Ray Chumbler.
Students reported that the juvenile had made the threats against the principal, prompting quick action by officials. The student was detained and during a search of his property, a box was found containing a cell phone with a battery attached to the interior of the device.
After further investigation, it was determined to not be an actual explosive device, however, the juvenile was taken into custody and charged with first-degree terroristic threatening. He has been detained and removed from the school. There is no evidence of any further threat.
