The Brent York Memorial Fish Fry was held at Olive Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, April 18th. The purpose of the event was to raise money for Relay for Life and a local man, Lance Derington, who was recently in a coma but came out of it after 3 weeks.
The fish fry was very successful, bringing in roughly 400 visitors and raising a total of $3600. The event was made possible through the many volunteers and help from local churches including Owens Chapel, Olive Baptist, and Olive Methodist.
Around 1400 fillets of crappie and catfish, which was all caught and donated, were prepared – along with many other dishes brought in by visitors and volunteers.
Also during the event, the Liberty Boys provided music and a silent auction was held to raise money for Relay for Life in which 56 cakes were auctioned off. Of the $3600, $800 was raised for Relay for life and $2800 was raised for the Derington family. The family is very thankful for the support and Lance has said that he gives all the glory to God for his recovery.
