Burglary
On Saturday April 11th Sgt. Eddie McGuire received a call that a motorcycle was seen leaving a vacant residence on Mayfield Hwy. The caller was able to retrieve the tag number off of the motorcycle as it was leaving. The motorcycle came back to a Steve York 53, of Benton. Sgt. McGuire went to York’s house who first denied going on the property, but later admitted to going. York told Sgt. McGuire which items he took from the residence and where they would be located. York was arrested and charged with Burglary 3rd Degree.
DUI
On Sunday April 12th Sgt. Eddie McGuire was parked near Pizza Hut when he heard the sound of a car accelerating quickly causing the tires to spin. Sgt. McGuire was able to stop the vehicle on Main St. Upon contact with the subject, Sgt. McGuire noticed a strong smell of alcohol present on the subject. The field sobriety test was given in which indicators were present to be under the influence. David A. Newlon 33, of Benton, was arrested and charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence.
For the week of April 6th through April 13th the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following: 13 Traffic Stops, 4 Motorist Assists, 13 Burglary/Theft Reports, 1 Animal Complaint, 7 Disturbances, 10 Investigations, 3 Domestic Disturbances, 2 Warrants Served, 7 Civils Served, 32 Have a Deputy Call and 9 Traffic Stops for a total call volume of 196 calls responded to.
