Lady Marshals go 1-2 at Portland Classic in Cookville, Tenn.

COOKVILLE, TN – They opened with a win over Gibbs County, TN, but lost the next two straight to Brimfield, IL in Cookville, TN, at the Portland Classic Softball Tournament Saturday.
In the 10:00 am game on Saturday, the Lady Marshals trailed Gibbs County 2-0 after one inning with both squads going scoreless until the fourth inning when Lady Marshal Peyton Smothers stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam that scored Aubree Kemp, Abby Fiessinger and Kenslie Cross for a 4-2 lead. Kemp, Fiessinger and Cross all hit singles to load the bases before the homer by Smothers.
Gibbs County would score one more run in the fifth inning on a home run.

In back-to-back games, the Lady Marshals followed up their win over Gibbs County with a 3-1 loss to Brimfield, IL. Led by Mackenzie Harper who was 2-2 at the plate, scoring the Lady Marshals only run in the bottom of the third after Harper reached third, going on to score when Fiessinger reached on an error.

Facing Brimfield again in their final game at Cookville, the Lady Marshals fell 7-0 on one hit and three errors. Brimfield in the five innings of play scored their seven points on 11 hits and one error. Brimfield led 5-1 after two innings following their 4-run first inning, adding one more run in each of the final two innings.
Fiessinger came up with the only hit for the Lady Marshals in the game with Renfrow pitching 1.2 innings allowing four hits and two runs relieved by Snow who pitched 3.0 innings, also giving up four hits and two runs.
The losses to Brimfield for the Lady Marshals were the first two of the season with a record that stands at 6-2.
