Vida Edwards

vidaedwardsVida Edwards, beloved teacher to many, passed away at 2:35AM on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at Stilley House Assisted Living in Benton. Mrs. Vida was born on Thursday, January 8th, 1914 to W.D. “Dollie” Cole and Priscilla “Cilla” (Darnell) Cole in Marshall County. She was 101 years old.
Miss Vida, as she was affectionately known by her students, taught school for 41 years. She taught at Benton Elementary School for 33 of those years, and 8 years in the county school system. Miss Vida was a 1932 graduate of Brewers High School, and graduated from Murray State Teachers College in 1937. She was a member of the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, Marshall County Retired Teachers Association and was the oldest member of the First Missionary Baptist Church. She married Robert Edwards in 1941, and he passed away in 1990.
She is survived by her three nieces, Marlene Ivey of Calvert City, KY, Judi Homer of Benton, KY and Jeanette Rogers of Troy, MI; several nieces and nephews on the Edwards side of the family; and several Cole and Edwards great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Miss Vida was preceded in death by two sisters, Ena Reva (Cole) Ivey and Ruth (Cole) Cone; four brothers, Ralph Cole, Luther Cole, Terrell Cole and Forest Cole; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home. Rev. K. Alan Miller will officiate with burial to follow in the Benton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00PM until 8:00PM on Monday, March 23, 2015 at Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home.
