State Representative Will Coursey set to serve as Chairman on House Veterans, Military Affairs and Safety Committee

willcourseyFRANKFORT – State Rep. Coursey, who previously chaired a legislative committee overseeing Kentucky’s waterways, is set to take on a new leading role during the next two years as chairman of the Houses Veterans, Military Affairs and Public Safety Committee, one of 17 that considers legislation.

House leaders appointed him near the start of the legislative session, and Rep. Coursey, D-Benton, is set to chair his first meeting in the coming days of the 2015 Regular Session. “I want to thank the House leaders for making this possible, because I have always had a strong interest when it comes to protecting and promoting Kentucky’s contributions to our country’s safety while helping our veterans,” Rep. Coursey said.

“We do more than most states, and I am committed to making sure that continues.” “Will has been an outstanding legislator, so the other leaders and I knew he would be a natural in taking on this added responsibility,” House Speaker Greg Stumbo said. “It’s a crucial role, given the issues the committee addresses.”

In addition to his work as chairman, Rep. Coursey will serve on several other committees: Agriculture; Energy; Labor & Industry; State Government; and Transportation. He also is vice chairman of the Banking & Insurance Committee and the Budget Review Subcommittee on Primary and Secondary Education, and he is a member of the Capital Projects and Bond Oversight Committee, which focuses on maintaining and upgrading state facilities.

“My committee work gives our region a stronger voice in those areas of state government that have the biggest impact here,” Rep. Coursey said. “It makes for a busy legislative session, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
