Lady Marshals sweep Hoopfest games with win over Clarksville Academy

Halle Langhi had 27 points, 21 rebounds and was a perfect 11-of-11 at the free throw line to lead the Lady Marshals to a 54-38 win over Clarksville Academy.

Senior Halle Langhi scored 27 points and had 21 rebounds to lead the Lady Marshals over Clarksville Academy in the 10:30 a.m. game of Saturday’s Marshall County Hoopfest. The win earned the team a sweep of their Hoopfest appearances and a 2-0 to start the season.

Despite a half riddled with turnovers – 14 for the Lady Marshals and 10 by Clarksville Academy – a 9-7 first quarter Marshall County lead stretched out to a 10 point lead at halftime at 29-19. Langhi already had her double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds in the first half on her way to Player of the Game honors.

Head Coach Aaron Beth said turnovers and giving up too many offensive rebounds in the beginning of the game wasn’t the best start.

“It was a physical game…we got bumped a little and let them take it from us”, Beth said. “We’ve got to grow up and be strong.”

Mia Teague opened the second half with a 3-pointer and the lead grew to 17 points following two straight field goals by Jada Driver. Langhi and Driver combined for the next five points and Chevelle Henson added the final basket of the third quarter to go up 43-30.

A 3-pointer by ShayAnn Conn, who led Clarksville Academy with 17 points, cut the lead down to 10 points to open the fourth quarter but that’s as close as it would get in the 16 point win.

“Overall, extremely proud of the first two games”, Beth said. “I want this team to get comfortable with each other. Learn how to play together…the chemistry…and by tournament time I just want us to have a chance to defend our regional championship and I really feel like that’s going to happen the way things have gone so far.”

Next up, they will host Region 1 opponent Graves County on Dec. 10. The Lady Eagles are off to a 3-0 start with an 82-21 win over Murray, a 64-38 Hoopfest win over Massac County and 45-15 win over Anna-Jonesboro.
