McLeod, Wall close out successful seasons at state tournament

Camdyn McLeod (left) and Trey Wall, wrapped up play on Saturday in the KHSAA Boys’ State Golf Championships at Bowling Green Country Club. McLeod finished tied for 19th, the top finish along with Rocco Zakutney among Region 1 players.

Christian Academy-Louisville is the 2021 KHSAA Boys’ State Golf Champions, winning by one stroke over Madison Central. The Centurions finished at +21 (297-300/597) to win the title. Region 1 winner St. Mary, finished eighth at +95 (330-341/671)

Individual champion was Christian Academy-Louisville’s Matthew Troutman with a two-day score of 5-under (68-71/139). Troutman finished tied for fifth in 2020.

Camdyn McLeod and St. Mary’s Rocco Zakutney had the top finish among Region 1 players, both finishing in a 19th place tie at +7. McLeod’s shot 77 on day one and 74 on day two. Trey Wall finished up tied for 34th at +12 with rounds of 81 and 75.

Both players advanced to the second round of play after making the +10 cut. McLeod finished  +5 and Wall +9 on Friday.

McLeod played the front nine at Bowling Green Country Club one stroke better than Friday in Saturday’s round and shot even on the back nine after balancing out bogeys on #10 and #18 with birdies on #13 and #14. He improved 44 spots from his finishing position in last year’s state tournament.

Not the start he wanted on Friday, Trey Wall opened his round with a double bogey on #1, going on to play the front nine 6-over. He shot four strokes better on the front nine on Saturday and 1-over on the back nine to finish 3-over on Saturday and +12 for the tournament
