Lady Marshals wrap up first full week of tournaments

Following a record-setting day on Tuesday in the Lady Spartan Invitational, on Thursday the Lady Marshals took first in Shelby County’s Lady Rocket Invitational at the Weissinger Hills course and placed second on Friday in the PLD Lady Bulldog Invitational at Kearney Hills after tying Sacred Heart with a team score of 304.

Thursday’s win with a team score of 294 was 17 strokes better than second place Sacred Heart. Savannah Howell led the Lady Marshals with a 3-under round of 69 which earned the senior a first place finish. Just two strokes back in second place, Megan Hertter shot a 1-under 71 followed by Trinity Beth in fourth place with an even par 72. Katie Roberts shot 82 and Elsie Riley 87 to round out individual scores for the Lady Marshals.

Friday at Kearney Hills in Lexington, the Lady Marshals and Sacred Heart both shot team scores of 304 (+16) with Sacred Heart awarded the win with the fifth player score tie breaker. Madison Central placed third, two strokes back at 306 in the field of 19 teams.

For the second straight tournament, Savannah Howell earned medalist honors with a 2-under 70, the only player to shoot under par. Megan Hertter placed fifth with a 1-over round of 73, Trinity Beth shot 77 to finish 16th, Elsie Riley shot 84 and Katie Roberts finished with 88.

The Lady Marshals will have a few days off from competition after five tournaments in their opening week. They will play next on Saturday, Aug. 14 in the Lady Maroons Invitational at Eagles Nest Country Club in Somerset, Ky.
