Lyons advance to elite eight round of the KHSAA State Baseball Tournament

Lyon County beat Owensboro Catholic 4-3 in eight innings in their Semi-state round of the KHSAA State Baseball Tournament held at WKU’s Nick Denes Field.

The win went to Jackson Shoulders who over two and a third innings, allowed four hits, two runs and struck out one. Austin Long pitched the first five and two thirds innings, striking out eight while allowing four hits and one run.

Shoulders also led at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Christian O’Daniel was 2-for-4 with a double and Gunnar Bingham 1-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs.

The Lyons led 3-0 until the bottom of the sixth when Owensboro Catholic posted their first run. The Aces scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Lyon County scored the game-winner in the top of the eighth.

Owensboro Catholic’s season ends with a record of 32-6.

Lyon County (29-7) advances to the round of eight to play Whitley County on Thursday, June 17 at 5:00 (EST) at Legends Field in Lexington. Whitley County (31-9) beat Raceland 6-5 to advance.
