Trap team members to compete in State Tournament

Over 200 high school athletes from teams representing schools across the state are scheduled to participate at the 2021 Kentucky State High School Clay Target League State Tournament, held at the Central Kentucky Gun Club in Berea, Ky.

The Trap Shooting State Tournament will be held on June 12th, featuring 177 athletes from 14 teams.

The Skeet Shooting State Tournament will be held on June 11th, featuring 32 athletes from 4 teams.

Twenty five Marshall County trap team members will participate in Saturday’s competition – the highest number of any team in the state.

The archers will compete in one of three categories based on their season average  – Varsity, JV or Novice. Varsity archers average 19 and above per round, JV 15.00-18.99 per round and Novice 14.99 or below.

Those electing to participate in the state competition and the division they will complete in include; Conner Brown (JV), Zaccery Brown (JV), Hayden Brummitte (JV), Joey Colley (JV), Chase Derkacy (V), Emma Driver (novice), Jasmine Emmons (JV), Tyler Hileman (JV), Eli Holt (novice), Ian Kidd (V), Nathan Knight (novice), Ty Moore (V), Brighton Newnum (V), Zach Oden (V), Ethan Riley (V), Blake Robinson (JV), Dylan Robinson (V), Kaden Seaford (novice), Dalton Smith (JV), Davis Smith (V), Jacob Snyder (V), Nathan Stahl (novice), Kinsey Story (V), Gavin Wilson (V), Bryce York (JV).

Marshall County’s trap team finished third in trap of seven teams in their conference this season and third in skeet.

Top 10 averages for the team this season in trap came from Davis Smith with 23.4, Dustin Chilton 22.5, Brighton Newnum 22.2, Ethan Riley 22.2, Gavin Wilson 21.1, Carter Beliles 20.6, Zach Ogden 20.4, Dylan Robinson 20.3, Rex Wadkins 20.1 and Chase Derkacy 20.1.

Two team members finished in the top 10 in skeet – Zach Oden in fourth with a 22.2 average and Conner Brown finished eighth with a 20.1 average.

Representing 24 high school teams across the state, 319 student athletes participated in the Kentucky State High School Clay Target League (KYSHSCTL) this spring. The KYSHSCTL is a part of the USA Clay Target League, which offers high school and college programs in 34 states.
