Tied 3-3 at the end of seven innings, the Lady Marshals scored two runs in the top of the eighth to beat Graves County 5-3 on 14 hits to advance to Sunday’s First Region semi-final against McCracken County. The Lady Mustangs beat Carlisle County 11-1 in five innings to advance.
After leaving the bases loaded in the top of the first, the Lady Marshals found the plate in the top of the second inning on a two out steal of home by Sarenna Tomassi.
They went up 2-0 in the top of the fourth. Tomassi and McKenzie Elkins singled to get on base and an RBI sacrifice by Charley Pursley brought Tomassi across the plate for her second run of the game.
Graves County tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a 2-run home run hit by freshman Bailey Wimsatt.
The Lady Marshals took the lead back in the top of the fifth, Cayson Conner scoring on a ground out by Kinley Edwards.
An RBI double by Anna Davis in the bottom of the seventh tied the game at 3-3 and kept the Lady Eagles hopes alive, sending the game into extra innings.
The two run top of the eighth for the Lady Marshals began on a single by Layne Pea who scored on a double by Pursley. Pursley scored on a single by Gabbi Lovett for a 5-3 lead which held for the win – the Lady Eagles leaving one stranded on base with the final out of the game.
Gracelyn Darnall pitched seven innings to earn the win, the freshman striking out five while allowing five hits and three runs. Lovett pitched the final inning in relief, allowing one hit.
The semi-final games, scheduled for Monday, have been moved to Sunday. The Lady Marshals and Lady Mustangs will play at 4:00 at Graves County.
