Lady Marshals go 2-1 in Lady Patriot Classic

Playing #5 Central Hardin on Monday in their first of three games in the Lady Patriot Classic at Lincoln County, the Lady Marshals fell victim to a big six-run top of the first inning that was highlighted by a grand slam hit by Trista Colasanti.

Region Five champions for the past five years (2015-2019), the Lady Bruins have made several deep runs in the KHSAA State Softball Tournament and came into Monday’s game 4-0, out-scoring their first four opponents 56-5.

Central Hardin added three more runs in the top of the third and two in both the third and fifth innings to claim the 13-2 win on 10 hits.

The Lady Marshals two runs came in the bottom of the first when junior Charley Pursley scored on a wild pitch and in the third on a single by sophomore Anna Vasseur.

Colasanti pitched the win over four innings, allowing two runs with one strike out.

The Lady Marshals beat Taylor County 12-4 in Tuesday’s 9:00 a.m. game. A 4-0 lead at the end of the third inning was tied up 4-4 by Taylor County in the top of the fourth. Four runs in the bottom of the inning plus another three in the fifth and one in the sixth secured the win for the Lady Marshals on 13 hits.

Sarenna Tomassi led at the plate with a double, home run and four RBIs. Pursley was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI, Vasseur went 2-for-4 and Riley Piercefield hit a 2-run double.

Piercefield’s double scored the first run for the Lady Marshals in the bottom of the first and their three runs in the bottom of the third came on an error that brought in Pursley and Tomassi scored on a ground out by Piercefield.

Sarah Stokes scored the fifth run in the bottom of the fourth on a Pursley ground out and an inside the park 3-run home run by Tomassi put the Lady Marshals up 8-4 heading into the fifth inning. Three runs in the bottom of the fifth came in on Taylor County errors and the final run in the sixth was scored on a sacrifice fly by Madyson Morton.

Eighth grader Aubree Bardin and freshman Emily Melton both hit home runs in the top of the fourth for Taylor County.

Gracelyn Darnall earned the win in 3.2 innings, allowing one hit and zero runs.

In Tuesday’s afternoon game, the Lady Marshals had 13 hits in their 8-5 win over Allen County-Scottsville. Pursley was 4-for-4 at the plate with a double and RBI, Tomassi 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs and Kinley Edwards was also 2-for-2 with a double and RBI.

Emily Garland and Darnall shared duties in the circle with Darnell getting the win in three innings of work, allowing four hits, one run with three strike outs.

A single by Tomassi brought in the first run in the bottom of the first and after trailing 4-1, they went up 5-4 in the bottom of the third on a single by Edwards, sacrifice by Chloe Coursey, single by Morton and an error.

Three more runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the fourth on doubles by Pursley and Tomassi and a single from Piercefield.

Next on the schedule is a game at McCracken County (3-1) on Tuesday, April 13th. The Lady Mustangs have five games later this week including four in the Grayson County Spring Break Bash.
