CFS drops Mayfield opener, sweeps Fort Campbell in doubleheader

Jayden Jackson, in the circle for CFS against Mayfield at Mike Miller Park on Thursday, was a leading hitter for the Lady Eagles in the first three games going 7-for-8 with two doubles, a triple and five RBIs.

Christian Fellowship’s Lady Eagles softball team opened the 2021 season on Thursday against Mayfield. With a season lost to the pandemic, CFS looks to build on their 2019 season they finished 13-17 with several current players that were young middle schoolers on that squad and Trevor Jackson who begins his eighth season as head coach.

They dropped their season opener 15-0 to the Lady Cardinals but followed it up with a doubleheader sweep over Fort Campbell on Friday, 19-2 and 19-4.

A double by Jayden Jackson and single from Rhema Howard were the only two hits for the Lady Eagles against Mayfield.  Seventh grader, Lexi Feagin, led in Mayfield’s 11 hits with a triple, home run and two RBIs.

Mayfield opened the first inning with six runs, putting the Lady Eagles on their heals from the start, making it hard to recover from as the Lady Cardinals continued to add runs in each of the four innings played. Another six in the top of the fourth ended the game before the fifth inning.

In the first of Friday’s doubleheader sweep of Fort Campbell. The Lady Marshals scored 14 runs in the bottom of the first and five more in the second. Fort Campbell crossed the plate twice in the top of the third to avoid the shutout.

The first inning runs were highlighted by a single by Rhema Howard, two RBI single by Alyssa Warren and three run triple by Jayden Jackson. Jackson had the hot bat for the Lady Eagles with a triple, two singles and recorded four RBIs.

Fort Campbell scored two runs in the top of the first in the second game of the doubleheader but the Lady Eagles followed that up with seven in the bottom of the inning and were off and running, adding 10 runs in the second and a couple more in the third in the 19-4 win on 13 hits.

Jackson continued to connect at the plate in the second game, hitting a double, two singles and had one RBI. Rhema Howard hit two singles with three RBIs.

Following spring break, the Lady Eagles will play Carlisle County on Tuesday, Apr. 13 in the 1st Region All “A” Tournament at St. Mary.
