Report for Week of Dec 6-12

District 1 includes Fulton, Hickman, Carlisle, Ballard, McCracken, Graves, Calloway,

Marshall, Livingston, Crittenden, Lyon & Trigg counties

PADUCAH, KY (Dec. 4, 2020) — KYTC District 1 anticipates ongoing construction activities at the following locations will impact traffic the week of Dec 6-12, 2020.  Additional projects may be added through the week with individual traffic advisory notices.  More detailed information on these individual work zones is available via the KYTC District 1 Facebook page link below.

I-24 at 51 to 65mm in Lyon/Caldwell/Trigg Counties
Interstate 24 has an extended work zone from the 51 to 65mm with a median crossover and 2-way traffic running on the westbound lanes with a centerline barrier wall. Eastbound maximum load width is 12 ft.  Westbound maximum load width is 15 ft. This work zone has a 55 mph speed limit.  The work zone is expected remain up into mid-December. To avoid delays during peak travel periods, motorists should consider a self-detour between the I-24/I-69 Exit 25 Interchange near Calvert City and the Exit 65 Cadiz interchange via I-69 and U.S. 68 through Draffenville, Aurora, and Land Between the Lakes.  An additional alternate route is available between I-24 Exit 43 and Exit 83 via I-69 and the Pennyrile Parkway.

I-24/KY 139 Cadiz-Princeton Exit 56 Interchange
Both eastbound ramps at the Interstate 24/KY 139 Cadiz-Princeton Exit 56 Interchange are closed for reconstruction.  Motorists should detour via the eastbound ramps at Exit 45 or Exit 65, depending on their final destination. Both eastbound ramps at Exit 56 are expected to remain closed until around December 10.  The westbound entry and exit ramps to and from KY 139 at Exit 56 are open.

Calloway County

U.S. 641 has an ongoing work zone at the south edge of Murray with 2-way traffic running on base asphalt courses along the northbound lanes.  Due to paving and curb work, the contractor may occasionally close some side streets and restrict lanes along U.S. 641 near this 1-mile work zone.  The target completion date is July 1, 2021.

Calloway County

KY 94 is restricted to one lane with an automated signal at milepoint 11.7 to allow joint work on the Clayton Creek Bridge.  This is at the east edge of Murray.  The target completion date is Friday, December 11, 2020.

Fulton County

Efforts to rework the intersection of KY 125/Union City Road and KY 166/Middle Road southeast of Hickman have halted for the winter.  Work to convert the Y intersection into a T intersection to improve safety will resume in the spring of 2021.

Graves County

KY 1124 is closed at the 2.7 mile marker to allow a culvert that carries a branch of Vulton Creek to be replaced.  This closure is immediately west of the Usher Road intersection.  This closure has been extended to Friday, December 11, 2020.

Livingston County

There is an active work zone along U.S. 60 at the north edge of Smithland for construction of the New Cumberland River Bridge.  Flaggers may be present from time to time to assist trucks as they enter and exit the work hauling materials and equipment. There is a 25 mph speed limit for westbound traffic and a 35 mph speed limit for eastbound traffic. The target completion date is for the new $63.6 million bridge is Spring of 2023.

Marshall County

U.S. 641 has a work zone through downtown Benton from mile point 7.98 near the Town Creek Bridge northward to mile point 8.824 at the KY 348/5th Street intersection.  It includes one-way sections of U.S. 641 along Main Street and Poplar Street in Benton. Traffic is running on base asphalt courses through the winter months.  The contractor plans to return in spring to pave the final driving surface. The target completion date is June 1, 2021.

Trigg County

U.S. 68 has an active work zone from the east end of the U.S. 68 Lake Barkley Bridge at Canton extended eastward to the intersection with U.S. 68 Business at Cadiz.  The contractor has completed mainline paving.  However, some landscaping and other finish work along the multi-use trail and right of way may continue into next year.

Trigg County

The U.S. 68 intersection with KY 139/South Road at the south edge of Cadiz has an active work zone to allow construction of an R-Cut.  North-South traffic on KY 139 has been permanently shifted to the R-Cut.  Median curb and gutter work and a final round of paving should be completed sometime during the week, weather permitting.  For information on how an R-Cut operates, go to www.US45Safety.org.

This traffic impact report is aimed at alerting motorists to work zones on mostly major routes.  It does not include projects on rural secondary highways that have minimal cross-country traffic.
