Lady Marshals advance to play Murray in Thursday’s championship

Peyton Lamb sends the ball forward in the Lady Marshals district championship game against Murray. Thursday’s region title game will be a rematch of last week’s game that ended 9-1 and gave the Lady Marshals a fourth straight district title.

Delayed one day due to weather, the Lady Marshals and Lady Vikings of St. Mary got their First Region Tournament semi-final underway on the artificial turf of the football field Tuesday at McCracken County High School.

Marshall County cruised to an 8-0 victory in their Sept. 18 game against St. Mary, but the semi-final of the region tournament played out a little differently, at least on the scoreboard. The Lady Marshals held a slim 1-0 lead at halftime on a goal headed in by Kallen Fuller off of a Janie Pagel corner kick.

The second half went much the same way as the first, the Lady Marshals controlling possession and getting off a lot of shots before finding the net over 24 minutes in off the foot of Peyton Lamb. Less than two minutes later, Anna Robertson’s goal made it a 3-0 game which held up until the final whistle.

They will meet Murray in a rematch of the district championship game in Thursday’s First Region Championship at 6:00 on Thursday. The Lady Marshals beat Murray 9-1 last week to win their fourth consecutive district title. Murray was down 3-0 to McCracken County in the second semi-final and fought back to tie 3-3 and win the game in double overtime.

The Lady Marshals will be going for their fourth straight and program’s 21st regional championship.
