Lady Marshals earn regular season sweep over CFS

Marshall County and Christian Fellowship met for the second time this season, this time the Lady Eagles making the short trip across Hwy. 68 to play at MCHS. The Lady Marshals earned their second win over CFS (25-14, 25-20, 25-18) and improve to 8-4 while CFS drops to 9-6.

Clara Bradley opened the scoring in the first set on a kill and the Lady Marshals quickly extended the lead to 10-3 before a serve in the net gave the point to CFS. A 7-4 run by Marshall County followed and was highlighted by a kill from Halle Langhi for a 17-8 lead and they rolled on to pick up the first set win 25-14.

A couple of kills by Langhi early in the second set helped push the Lady Marshals lead to 7-3 and from there, they outscored CFS 7-3 to to lead 14-6 on an ace by Peyton Gresham before the Lady Eagles earned the point and side out. CFS scored the next four points, getting good net play from Lillian Burnett and Emma Fletcher, to cut the lead to 14-11 before the Lady Marshals stopped the run and went on to take a much closer set two 25-20. The third set went to Marshall County 25-18 for the 3-0 win.

Langhi led in kills in the win with 13 and Bradley had 11. Bradley and Bailey Pritchett led in digs with 14 each and Ashley Bremmerkamp picked up 11. Gresham recorded 27 assists and Tori McCracken in aces with five. Bremmerkamp and Alyssa McClain each had four kills a piece.

CFS was led in kills by Burnett with nine and Fletcher with six. Brecksyn Etheridge had nine assists and leading in digs was Gracie Howard with 13 and nine each from Burnett and Jayden Jackson.

The JV Lady Marshals beat CFS 2-0 and continue their undefeated season.

On Saturday in Hopkinsville at Wreck at the Plex, the Lady Marshals lost both matches to Caldwell County 3-1 (25-17, 14-25, 25-20, 25-23) and Bowling Green 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-15). The Lady Eagles split games in Hopkinsville, beating Crittenden County 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-17) and falling to Madisonville-North Hopkins 3-1 (25-19, 13-25, 27-25, 25-21).

For the Lady Marshals in their two games in Hopkinsville, Langhi led in kills with 27 and digs with 19 followed by Bradley with 18 kills and 16 digs. Gresham led in assists with 49 and Bremmerkamp had 15 digs.

Stat leaders for the Lady Eagles in the two games combined in Hopkinsville, Fletcher led in kills with 30, Burnett had 20 and Gracie Howard 11. Burnett led in blocks with seven and in assists, Etheridge had 44 and Rhema Howard had 16. Burnett led in digs with 24, Jayden Jackson 16, Fletcher 15 and Rhema Howard had 14.

The Lady Marshals play at Murray (7-7) today and on Thursday will be back home against an undefeated (17-0) Ballard Memorial. The Lady Eagles will have a week off from competition before an Oct. 13 game at CCA (5-10).
