Year in and year out the Lady Marshals and Lady Mustangs are two of the top girls teams in the First Region, and in their first match since the 2019 title game Marshall County won 1-0, they played to a 0-0 tie Tuesday at Mercy Health Field.

Just over eight minutes into the contest, Mia Teague’s shot on goal just missed over the top and while the possession edge went to the Lady Marshals, both teams goal opportunities were thwarted by the defensive efforts on both sides.

Both keepers – Parker Perry for the Lady Marshals and Karsyn Allard for the Lady Mustangs – did their jobs in the second half along with both defensive lines to keep the game at a stalemate. Perry had three saves and Allard six for the game.

Kelsey Crass had a couple of opportunities to score in the second half but her efforts came up empty while the Lady Marshals had the edge in shots throughout.

It was the second tie of the season for Marshall County (6-1-2) and the first for McCracken County (7-3-1). The JV Lady Marshals won the first game 2-1.

The Lady Marshals beat Owensboro Catholic 7-1 in an 11:30 a.m. game on Saturday. They out-shot the Lady Aces 30 to 10. Goals came from Zoe Maxlow with two goals (Kelsey Crass assist), Kallen Fuller with two (Janie Pagel assist) and  Kelsey Crass with three goals (Fuller, Presley Gallimore assists). Annie Moore scored the one goal for Owensboro Catholic.

Perry had seven saves and one for Phoebe Ramsey. The Lady Aces keeper had 14 saves.

The Lady Marshals will play at home on Saturday in a varsity only game against Evansville Reitz at 11:00 a.m.
