Trey Wall, pictured here in the Sept. 5 Marshall County Invitational, helped lead the Marshals to third place in Saturday’s Bowling Green Invitational with a 2-over round of 74.

At Saturday’s Bowling Green Invitational, the Marshall County boy’s team was one of seven teams  able to complete their rounds before heavy rain showers cancelled the rounds of the remaining eight teams.

Led by Jay Nimmo’s 2-under round of 70, the Marshals finished third with a team score of 304 (+16) against some of the state’s top contenders. Reigning 2019 state champion, Taylor County, took the win with a team score of 295 (+7) and St. Xavier finished second with 298 (+10).

Nimmo finished tied for third individually with Jackson Finney from St. Xavier. Medalist honors went to Seth Smith of Taylor County at 66 (-6) and second place to Luke Muller from Highlands at 68 (-4).

Trey Wall finished tied for seventh with a 2-over round of 74 and one stroke back was Camdyn McLeod at 75 to finish tied at 10th. David Jack Morris shot 85 to finished tied for 38th place and and Preston Futrell finished a shot back of Morris with 86 to finish tied for 41st.

“We were very happy to be playing a competitive round of golf on this course since this is the site where the KHSAA State Championship will be held Oct. 5-7”, Coach Keith Bell said. “Jay was able to put together another “under” par round of golf while Trey Wall and Camdyn McLeod followed with +2 and +3 respectively.  David Jack Morris was playing this course for the first time in his career, he showed several times his ability to put together some par runs during the round.  Preston Futrell had a good start after the first hole with four consecutive pars.”

Coach Bell said the experience of playing on this course will pay dividends should they win the Region One title and return to participate in the KHSAA State Championship.

The Marshals will prepare this week for the KGCA “All State” Championship at the UK Club in Lexington this Saturday and Sunday.  This is the second year for this two day tournament which presents the toughest field of high school golf teams and players from all over the state of Kentucky.

Coach Bell said the team is excited to go up against the best teams in the state and see where they stack up. They are currently tied for third in the Team All-State Rankings. Nimmo is currently ranked third in the individual state rankings.

“I’m extremely proud of these players and the work they are doing as we prepare to compete and win a state championship”, Bell said.
