Eastbound Work Zone Lane and Load Width Restriction along I-24 at Paducah starting Sunday Night, Aug 9

PADUCAH, Ky. (Aug 5, 2020) ) — A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to establish an eastbound work zone lane and load width restriction along a 2-mile section of Interstate 24 at Paducah starting Sunday night, August 9, 2020.

This eastbound work zone runs along I-24 from mile point 2.8 at the KY 305 Paducah Exit 3 interchange extending through the Interstate 24/U.S. 60 Exit 4 Interchange to mile point 4.8 just beyond the Perkins Creek Bridge.

This extended work zone is to allow bridge deck overlay and maintenance work on the KY 305 Exit 3 Overpass, the U.S. 60 Exit 4 Overpass, and the Perkins Creek Bridge. Motorists should use appropriate caution on Sunday night as the contractor initiates installation of traffic restrictions to facilitate the work.

Eastbound motorists should be prepared to encounter slowing and merging traffic as they enter Kentucky from Illinois via the Ohio River Bridge.  Initially, all eastbound traffic will move to the left-hand or passing lane in this work zone.

This 2-mile long work zone will include a 13 ft. maximum load width restriction.

This work zone will have a 55 mile per hour speed limit with an enhanced enforcement presence and double fines for citations.

A westbound work zone lane restriction along this section of I-24 is expected to remain up through about Wednesday, August 12, to allow finish work.  Starting Sunday night, the contractor will move barrier walls and other traffic control and safety equipment to the eastbound lanes.  This is expected to allow westbound traffic to return to transition to normal flow by about mid-week.

Harper Construction, LLC, is the prime contractor on this $1.4 million bridge deck replacement and maintenance project. The target completion date for all work on the project is October 15, 2020.
